i Get… Going to the Beach is an application providing a photo social story for individuals that need support in understanding going to the beach. Eighteen icons with real picture images are used to illustrate the sequence of events, and the user can program twenty-one more custom icons to add personal experiences. Text statements and audio recordings can be individualized for each picture allowing the app to be used for a variety of purposes, including receptive identification and expressive labeling. Personal photos can be added by the user with a camera ready Apple device or imported from the user’s photo album. Typically developing young children going to the beach for the first time and individuals with developmental delays, such as PDD-NOS and autism will benefit from this interactive application. Ideas for using i Get… Going to the Beach

i Get… Going to the Beach is a great way to teach a child who has never been to the beach or may not remember their last trip to the beach about the beach. Import and include pictures from previous trips. Organize the icons to show the sequence of events for the trip. View the pictures as you talk about the upcoming trip. Then cue the pictures while at the beach.
While at the beach, take pictures of your activities using the camera button in the app on your camera ready device. Create new pages for activities not included. After the trip, encourage the child to use i See-quence… Going to the Beach while recalling the trip to family and friends or working on narrative discourse objectives.
Encourage executive functioning skills by using the app to plan for a trip to the beach. Make a packing list of supplies using the notes section.
Use category skills to make lists of items for the different activities, such as compiling a list of foods to eat at the picnic, listing possible games to play while at the beach or labeling tasks to complete when unloading the supplies.
